Anna Höglund is a Senior Lecturer at Linnaeus University’s Department of Film and Literature, within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her research focuses on monsters in literature and popular culture, including vampires, zombies, and hybrid creatures, exploring their roles in reflecting societal fears and desires. She teaches courses such as Vampire Fiction, Children and Horror Fiction, and Game of Thrones: Studies of Power. Höglund holds a PhD from Växjö University (2009) and has published extensively on vampire narratives, cultural history, and the fantastic genre. She collaborates with cultural institutions like Dramaten and Svenska Filminstitutet, advocating for academic outreach through media appearances and lectures. Her work bridges literary studies, cultural theory, and interdisciplinary research.
Research Interests: Monsters in literature, cultural history of horror and fantasy, gender studies, and the role of the fantastic in societal discourse. Recent publications include analyses of Chawu (2024) and contributions to The Enduring Fantastic (2021). She is developing a monsterteory framework to explain how monsters are used to address existential questions.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Network for Fantastic and Cultural Studies at Linnaeus University. Collaborates with international scholars in monster studies and Gothic literature.
