Anna Froese serves as a Visiting Researcher in the Research Group Globalization, Work, and Production and Research Fellow in the Science Policy Studies group at Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) since 2012. Concurrently, she holds roles as Project Manager (2017–present) and European Commission Independent Expert for Knowledge Alliances and Rights, Equality & Citizenship programs (2015–present).
Her educational background includes:
- Doctoral research on German university organizational design at Technische Universität Berlin's Chair in Organization and Leadership (2007–2012)
- Research residency at Stanford University, MIT, and Rockefeller University (2009)
- Master of Business Administration from Freie Universität Berlin (1998–2003)
Froese's research examines organizational efficiency in academic institutions through five interconnected lenses: university management systems, knowledge transfer mechanisms, innovation frameworks, diversity strategies, and organizational design principles. Her work bridges theoretical models with practical implementation, particularly analyzing how structural choices impact research quality and societal relevance. International comparative studies form a cornerstone of her methodology, revealing cross-cultural patterns in diversity management and knowledge dissemination.
Her publication trajectory (2009–2014) reveals three dominant themes: university organizational architecture (evident in her 2013 monograph), comparative diversity frameworks across US/Australian/German contexts, and knowledge-society interfaces in social sciences. This body of work consistently connects micro-level organizational design with macro-level innovation outcomes, emphasizing measurable impact through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Project leadership constitutes a significant dimension of Froese's work:
- Current: Interdisciplinarity and Research Creativity initiative exploring novel impact-generation pathways
- Closed: "Unbekanntes Terrain?" knowledge transfer study in social/spatial sciences
- European Commission: Technical evaluation of transnational education and equality programs
Embedded within WZB's dual research groups, Froese operates at the nexus of globalization studies and science policy analysis. Her collaborative environment facilitates cross-pollination between theoretical organizational research and practical implementation challenges, particularly regarding diversity integration in research-intensive settings.
