Anna Christina Soy Ribeiro is a Professor of Philosophy and affiliate professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University (TTU). She is a TTU 'Integrated Scholar' recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and service. Her research focuses on aesthetics, philosophy of art, and poetry, with a key emphasis on establishing a distinct 'philosophy of poetry' within aesthetics. She serves on editorial boards of the British Journal of Aesthetics and the Bloomsbury Studies in Philosophy and Poetry, and as aesthetics editor for Daimon. Recent roles include trustee of the American Society for Aesthetics (2017–2020) and fellowships at the National Humanities Center and Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics.
Her research investigates topics such as aesthetic luck, the art-craft distinction, and poetic tropes. Notable works include Beautiful Speech: The Nature, Origins, and Powers of Poetry (Oxford UP, under contract) and co-edited volumes like The Bloomsbury Companion to Aesthetics. She has delivered talks globally, including keynote addresses on AI and poetry, and has been featured in venues like the Washington University Review of Philosophy.
Ribeiro’s awards include the 2016 Ted Cohen Prize for her work on poetry ontology and the Ornie Award for her blog post on aesthetics. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy with cognitive science, film, and literature, reflecting her commitment to exploring the intersections of art and human experience.
