Anna Bone is a Lecturer in Epidemiology and Palliative Care at King’s College London, affiliated with the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation. She holds a BA in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford, an MPH from Imperial College London, and a PhD from King’s College London. Her research focuses on palliative care for frail older adults, emergency department utilization at end-of-life, and policy implications of aging populations. She leads projects such as OPTCare Elderly and CovPall-Connect, addressing palliative care delivery in community and care home settings.
Key research interests include patterns of emergency hospital attendance among older people, models of palliative care for care home residents, and sarcopenia interventions. She has contributed to studies like the International Access Rights and Empowerment (IARE II) study examining access to palliative care for frail older individuals. Anna supervises PhD students researching interventions targeting sedentary behavior in nursing home residents with sarcopenia.
Her recent publications highlight disparities in emergency care access by ethnicity, projections of palliative care needs in Chile, and the impact of the pandemic on end-of-life care. Anna’s work bridges epidemiological research with practical policy recommendations to enhance palliative care systems, particularly for vulnerable elderly populations.
Current grants include Marie Curie-funded projects on unmet palliative care needs and pandemic response analyses. She collaborates with national and international teams to advance palliative care through evidence-based policy and service innovation.
