معرفی
Anna Benrick is an Associate Professor of Biomedicine at the University of Skövde's School of Health Sciences, where she has led her own research group since 2015. With over 20 years of experience in endocrinology, metabolism, and reproduction, her work focuses on the relationship between androgen excess and conditions including mental illness, reproductive disorders, obesity, and type 2 diabetes in women. She returned to academia in 2010 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Garvan Institute for Medical Research, funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Dr. Benrick's research program centers on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), investigating underlying mechanisms and developing new treatment approaches. Her work spans multiple disciplines including endocrinology, metabolism, reproductive biology, and neuroscience, with particular emphasis on adiponectin signaling, transgenerational effects of androgen exposure, and metabolic complications of PCOS. Her laboratory employs diverse methodologies including animal models, proteomic analysis, clinical interventions, and molecular techniques to understand PCOS pathophysiology.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on the interplay between hormonal imbalances and metabolic disorders, with increasing attention to transgenerational effects and immune system interactions in PCOS. Her work consistently bridges basic science with clinical applications, particularly in developing non-pharmacological interventions like electroacupuncture for PCOS management.
As a dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Benrick supervises doctoral students and regularly hosts research students in her laboratory. Her ongoing research project 'Obesity and androgen excess in women – adiponectin as a new treatment option' (2019-2021) exemplifies her translational approach to developing treatments that address both metabolic and reproductive aspects of PCOS.
Her laboratory operates at the intersection of endocrinology and metabolism research, collaborating extensively with other researchers at the University of Skövde and internationally. The team combines expertise in molecular biology, animal physiology, and clinical research to address complex questions about PCOS pathogenesis and treatment.
