Ann M. Steffen

Ann M. Steffen, Ph.D., serves as Founders Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Arts and Sciences. She holds dual board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology in Geropsychology and Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology.

Her research centers on advancing best practices for training clinicians in geropsychology, with specific focus areas:

• Clinical interventions for older adults
• Behavioral medicine applications in aging populations
• Cognitive behavioral approaches to late-life depression
• Gerontological education and outreach

Dr. Steffen teaches undergraduate gerontology courses (e.g., Mental Health & Aging) and doctoral clinical psychology courses including Seminar in Clinical Science and Clinical Supervision. She maintains an active clinical practice at the Community Psychological Service, providing psychotherapy and family consultation. Her notable publication includes the Oxford University Press workbook and clinician guide Treating Later-Life Depression: A Cognitive Behavioral Approach, along with contributions to the Aging Fact Sheet 2023. She has announced she will not accept new doctoral students for Fall 2026.
