Benjamin T. Mast, PhD, ABPP, is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville. He is a board-certified clinical geropsychologist and Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. His research focuses on clinical geropsychology and neuropsychological assessment, particularly in dementia and late-life cognitive disorders. Dr. Mast holds leadership roles as President of the Society of Clinical Geropsychology (APA Division 12, Section 2) and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the APA Handbook of Clinical Geropsychology.
He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Calvin College. His work integrates person-centered principles with evidence-based practices, emphasizing assessment innovations, vascular depression, and spiritual care in dementia. Key publications include books such as Whole Person Dementia Assessment and articles on apathy measurement, caregiver interventions, and neurocognitive disorders.
Dr. Mast teaches courses on aging, geropsychology, and neuropsychological assessment. His lab, Aging and Neuropsychology Lab, investigates dementia’s psychosocial dimensions and clinical methodologies. Awards include recognition for his contributions to clinical geropsychology and his advocacy for person-centered care in aging populations.
