Ann Glennie is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics at the College of the Holy Cross, with interdisciplinary expertise bridging Classical Studies and Environmental Studies through archaeological fieldwork and textual analysis.
Education:

Her research centers on Roman hydraulic engineering and water management systems from the Iron Age to late Imperial period, examining their social impact and integration with colonial development. She investigates Etruscan, Phoenician, and Punic material cultures while analyzing weaving metaphors in Latin literature through an environmental lens. Her methodology combines excavation data with ecological frameworks to reconstruct ancient Mediterranean socio-technical systems.
Fieldwork defines her practice: cataloging artifacts at Etruscan Poggio Civitate since 2007 and co-directing Roman excavations at Cosa since 2013. Her 2018-2019 residency at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome informs her pedagogical approach to courses including Water and Humans and Latin language instruction.
