Anthony Tuck is a Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since joining UMass in 2006, he has served as Director of Excavations at Poggio Civitate (Murlo), an Etruscan site dating from the 8th to 6th centuries BCE. His academic leadership extends to his role as Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs, reflecting his commitment to both education and institutional development.

Research Interests: Tuck's work focuses on the social, economic, and political development of early urban Italy. Key areas include Etruscan culture, ancient manufacturing and technology, political iconography of the Iron Age Mediterranean, Celtic-Etruscan interactions, and the archaeology of death and dying. His excavations at Poggio Civitate provide critical insights into Etruscan societal structures and ritual practices.
Publications and Contributions: Tuck has authored and co-authored numerous books, including Cities and Communities of Etruria and The Archaeology of Language at Poggio Civitate. His recent articles explore topics such as Etruscan hunting rituals, textile symbolism, and the intersection of wine consumption and political power.
Teaching: He has taught courses such as Introduction to Classical Archaeology, Greek Mythology, Roman Archaeology, and Technology in the Ancient World, reflecting his interdisciplinary expertise.
