Ann-Britt Marcher is a PhD and Academic staff member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern Denmark. She is also affiliated with Functional Genomic Studies and Metabolism and the ATLAS - Center for Functional Genomic Studies of Tissue Plasticity. Her ORCID identifier is 0000-0002-4799-8870.
Dr. Marcher's research spans multiple domains of molecular biology with particular emphasis on adipose tissue biology, lipid metabolism, and neurobiological signaling. Her work investigates the molecular mechanisms of Acyl-CoA-binding proteins, adipocyte function, hepatic stellate cells, and gliopeptides like Octadecaneuropeptide. She employs advanced techniques including single-cell and single-nucleus resolution analyses to study tissue plasticity and metabolic regulation.
Her recent publication trends reveal a strong focus on adipose tissue biology and metabolic regulation, with significant contributions to understanding pericyte signaling in liver disease, lipolysis in brown adipocytes, and the role of Acyl-CoA-binding proteins in systemic energy homeostasis. Her work bridges molecular mechanisms with physiological outcomes, particularly in metabolic diseases.
Dr. Marcher actively participates in major research initiatives, notably the Novo Nordisk Challenge Programme - ADIPOSIGN - Center for Adipocyte Signaling (2019-2024) and the Danmarks Grundforskningsfond – Centers of Excellence - ATLAS - DG Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (2017-2023). These projects focus on adipocyte signaling, tissue plasticity, and metabolic dysfunction.
She is an active member of the ATLAS research center, which investigates functional genomics and tissue plasticity with particular expertise in stem cells, transcription factors, repressor mechanisms, adipogenesis, and hepatic stellate cell biology. Her collaborative work extends to international conferences including the Cold Spring Harbor meeting on Metabolic Signaling & Disease, Benzon Symposium on Adipose Tissue, and Keystone Symposia on Type 2 Diabetes.
