Dr. Anita Purewal serves as a Lecturer in Law (Teaching & Scholarship) at Lancaster University's School of Law, where she teaches core modules including Equity and Trusts (Law 331), Environmental Law (Law 301x), and LLM-level Environmental Law (LLM 5238). Her role integrates scholarly research with pedagogical innovation across multiple legal domains.
Her research spans property law with emphasis on sentimental attachments to property and compulsory purchase compensation adequacy in the UK; environmental law covering regulatory theory, climate change adaptation, flood management, and infrastructure planning (notably HS2); and equity and trusts where she critically analyzes fiduciary duties and trustees' obligations. She actively investigates legal education methodologies, particularly formative assessment systems and active learning environments to enhance student outcomes.
Dr. Purewal's 2025 publication 'Unlocking Equity and Trusts' in Law Teacher exemplifies her legal education scholarship, exploring evidence-based teaching approaches for complex legal subjects. This work contributes to broader trends in curriculum design that prioritize student-centered assessment practices and measurable learning improvements.
No scientific awards are documented in her current profile. She participates in academic service including conference presentations and editorial activities for the Trusts & Estates Law & Tax Journal.
She supervises PhD student Shu Zhang and leads the ongoing research project 'Formative Assessments and Feedback in the Law School: Improving Student Learning and Satisfaction' (commenced January 2024), which gathers empirical data to optimize assessment integration in legal curricula and boost student satisfaction metrics.
