Anirban Basu is a Professor of Health Economics and the Stergachis Family Endowed Director of The CHOICE Institute at the University of Washington's School of Pharmacy, with joint appointments in Health Services and Economics departments. His research focuses on healthcare cost-effectiveness, causal inference, and the ethical implications of AI in healthcare. Notable contributions include seminal work on sickle cell disease economics, gene therapy valuation, and pandemic modeling during the COVID-19 crisis.
Education: PhD in Public Policy Studies (University of Chicago), Master's in Biostatistics (UNC-Chapel Hill). Former faculty at University of Chicago (2004-2010).
Research spans economic evaluation of healthcare interventions, including studies on diabetes management, mental health policy, and opioid use disorder treatment. He leads high-impact projects like the MEASURE model for sickle cell gene therapies and the PRECISE-VALUE initiative for pharmacogenomic decision support.
