Dr. Kavathekar's research centers on educational innovation in nursing, particularly team-based learning methodologies and their clinical applicability. Her doctoral work examines team-based learning translation to practice, building on her MSc research about low birth weight newborn care education. She actively supervises BSc and MSc students in Children's Nursing and Advanced Practice while developing curricula for high-dependency pediatric care.
Her publications reveal consistent focus on neonatal clinical procedures (heel prick sampling, phototherapy, blood gas analysis) and emerging emphasis on educational transformation through team-based learning, reflecting her dual expertise in clinical practice and pedagogy.
Recognition includes:
- Multiple shortlistings for Made a difference award for student support
- 2023 Student Nursing Times Award shortlisting for virtual simulated placement development
As Education Champion for Basildon and Thurrock hospital and personal tutor for children's nursing cohorts, she bridges academic-practice gaps. Her collaboration with Bliss charity established a parent support network for Broomfield neonatal unit, demonstrating community-focused care innovation beyond institutional boundaries.
Current initiatives include virtual simulation environments for child nursing placements and ongoing implementation of team-based learning frameworks across pre-registration curricula.
