Dr. Angela Mariani serves as Professor of Musicology and Director of the Texas Tech Historical Performance Ensemble (Collegium Musicum) at Texas Tech University's School of Music. She founded and directs the Graduate Certificate in Historical Performance Research and Practice (2009-present) and the Undergraduate Certificate in Historical Performance (2023-present).
Her research focuses on medieval music with special emphasis on historical performance practice, which involves deep investigation into historical instruments, early notation systems, unwritten improvisatory techniques, and historical context of musical repertoires. As an Arts Practice Researcher, her scholarship manifests not only in written works but also in regular performances she creates, produces, and directs.
Dr. Mariani's scholarly publications and radio work demonstrate trends across medieval studies, historical performance practice, and the intersection of contemplative practices with music education. Her nationally-syndicated radio program Harmonia, heard on over 100 stations worldwide, has been running since 1991.

Dr. Mariani has served on dozens of Master's, Doctoral, and PhD thesis committees while maintaining an active performance schedule with ensembles including Altramar (which she co-founded), Johnny Faa, and Rattleskull. Her teaching integrates contemplative pedagogy approaches, informed by her qualification as a Level 1 Instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction through Brown University.
She directs the Texas Tech Historical Performance Ensemble, which specializes in medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque repertoire, and maintains connections with the national early music community through her radio work and performances.
