Stewart Carter is a Professor at Wake Forest University, specializing in music history, music theory, and trombone. He directs the instrumental component of the Collegium Musicum, an ensemble focused on Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music. Carter served as Past-President of the Society for Seventeenth-Century Music and the American Musical Instrument Society, and he currently edits the Historic Brass Society Journal.

These works emphasize historical analysis, iconography, and ensemble practices.
As an active performer on sackbut, recorder, and viola da gamba, Carter bridges scholarship and practice. He has performed internationally and taught at workshops like the Amherst Early Music Festival, integrating his research into pedagogy and performance.
