Adrian France is a Professor of bass sackbut at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and guest Professor at the Academy of Music, Ljubljana. He specializes in historical trombone performance across Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods, and plays with renowned ensembles like the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Budapest Festival Orchestra. His teaching roles include visiting historic brass specialist at Newcastle University (formerly Head of Brass Studies) and adjudicating for competitions like BBC Young Musician of the Year.
He co-directs the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble and leads the Concert Trombone Quartette (CTQ), focusing on historically informed performance practices. Notable achievements include the ARAM award (2009) and Royal Society of Musicians membership (2015). His chamber music projects emphasize period instrument collaborations, including work with Musica Antiqua Salzburg and recordings with CTQ.
