Angela Kinney McBrearty

Angela Kinney McBrearty serves as Assistant Professor of Flute at Houghton University since 2008, maintaining additional teaching positions at 171 Cedar Arts Center and Csehy Summer School of Music. She founded the Crystal City Flute Choir and actively performs as principal flute with regional orchestras while directing the AMA Flute Trio.

Dr. McBrearty specializes in flute pedagogy with emphasis on beginner instruction and technical development. Her conference presentations consistently address flute technique mastery and pedagogical innovation across national platforms including Mid Atlantic Flute Convention and Rochester Flute Fair. These contributions demonstrate her focus on bridging performance practice with classroom instruction through practical, student-centered approaches.

Dr. McBrearty mentors a large private flute studio and has supervised student teachers throughout her career. She created the Flutissimo high school flute event that grew to include over 100 participants performing with university ensembles. Her educational initiatives emphasize hands-on experience and ensemble collaboration.

She directs the Crystal City Flute Choir in Central New York and performs with the AMA Flute Trio, maintaining active performance schedules alongside academic responsibilities. Her studio regularly participates in regional festivals and workshops.
