Angela Crack

Professor Angela Crack is a Professor of Civil Society and Social Impact at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Southampton (2004) and has held academic positions at Southampton, Liverpool John Moores University, before joining Portsmouth in 2008. Her research focuses on NGO accountability, language in development work, and pracademia (bridging academic and practitioner roles). She leads the AHRC-funded 'Translation Glossary Project,' which co-produced a Chichewa-English glossary with Malawian communities to improve NGO communication. She also chairs the Pracademic Development Initiative and serves on the Independent Review Panel for Accountable Now. She is an experienced PhD supervisor and teaches 'NGOs and Social Movements' and 'Researching International Relations.'

She has supervised seven successful PhD theses and secured grants from AHRC and other bodies. She is affiliated with the Centre for European & International Studies Research and actively engages in policy consultations, such as the UKCDR impact case study and the INGO Accountability Charter evaluation.
