Dan Shen is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance at the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Business & Law. He holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Essex and has taught courses in accounting, finance, and research methodology. His research focuses on corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, and alternative accounting practices, with a particular emphasis on Chinese multinational corporations and NGOs. He is affiliated with the Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Finance.
Shen’s academic background includes roles as a research fellow for the Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund at Essex, focusing on enhancing international student experiences, and an international marketing and recruitment assistant. His research spans topics such as CSR in global production networks, environmental governance of rare-earth industries, and the socio-economic impacts of shared mobility systems in China.
His recent work examines the strategic challenges faced by Chinese state-owned enterprises in balancing home-country policies with international operational demands, as well as the governance implications of expatriate management in transnational contexts. He actively contributes to peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including the British Journal of Management and the International Congress on Social and Environmental Accounting Research.
Shen has collaborated on projects like a comparative analysis of civil society’s role in environmental governance of rare-earth industries across countries.
