Dr. Angela Carman is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Health, Behavior & Society at the University of Kentucky's College of Public Health. She holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from the University of Kentucky (2012). Her research focuses on evidence-based intervention implementation, community engagement, and public health accreditation, with funding from NIH, CDC, and Robert Wood Johnson. She has led projects addressing rural health policy, healthcare quality improvement, and cross-jurisdictional collaboration in Kentucky.
Professional Experience: Prior to academia, she served as CEO of Berea Hospital (Ky). Current roles include Endowed Chair/Distinguished Scholar in Rural Health Policy (College of Medicine) and Co-Investigator in major CDC-funded initiatives like the UKHC Cardiovascular Health Program and diabetes social needs projects. She also contributed to the K-VAC study on vaccine hesitancy in Appalachian Kentucky.
Grants & Projects: Over 30 active/completed grants since 2010, including a 2023 CDC project on cardiovascular health and a 2024 initiative addressing diabetes in rural settings. Recent work emphasizes community-clinical linkages and public health systems optimization.
