Angel Cedazo Minguez is a Professor in Molecular Neurogeriatrics at the Karolinska Institutet since 2017. He combines his academic role with Vice-president of Strategic Initiatives and Scientific Relations at Sanofi in Paris, France. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk factors, cholesterol metabolism, oxysterols, and oxidative stress.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience (2002, KI), Docent (2010, KI)
- Leadership: Former Head of Neurodegeneration Research at Sanofi (2017-2022)
Research Interests center on AD pathogenesis, including:
- Role of Apolipoprotein E4 and cholesterol in neurodegeneration
- Mechanisms of oxysterols (24S-OH, 27OHC) in memory and vascular function
- Thioredoxin-1 (TRX1) and oxidative stress in AD
- Sex-specific differences in AD progression
- Autophagy and mitochondrial dysfunction
Scientific Contributions include discovery of TRX80's anti-aggregation properties and novel oxysterol signaling functions. Awards:
- Erik Rönnbergs award (3x)
- Hjärnfonden postdoc (2x)
Publications reveal consistent focus on cholesterol-AD links (13/15 recent articles), sex differences (7/15), and autophagy/lysosomal pathways (5/15). Collaborations span KI's Silvia Maioli's research group and international consortia.
