Aneta Sabovljevic is a Full Professor at the University of Belgrade's Department of Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology, where she leads the Bryophyte Biology Lab. Her research spans bryophyte conservation, stress physiology, and the application of biotechnology in preserving rare moss species. She employs in vitro techniques to study bryophyte responses to environmental stressors like heavy metals and salinity.
Her expertise includes:
- Bryophyte Biology: Conservation physiology, micropropagation of endangered species, and ex situ strategies.
- Plant Stress Responses: Mechanisms of salt, drought, and heavy metal tolerance in mosses.
- Biotechnology: Optimization of axenic cultures and bioactive compound extraction for medicinal applications.
Sabovljevic's publications emphasize conservation-driven approaches, with recent work exploring moss-derived neuroprotective agents and allelopathic interactions. She collaborates extensively across Europe on red-list assessments and biodiversity documentation in Southeastern Europe.
She directs the Bryophyte Biology Lab, focusing on functional trait analysis and ecological restoration of bryophytes in threatened habitats.
