Marco Mucciarelli serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Turin, Italy, teaching core courses including Plant Biology and Diversity, Plant and Microbial Biology for the Environment, and Conservation of Plant Germplasm across undergraduate and graduate programs in Biological Sciences and Environmental Biology.
His research centers on three critical domains: ex situ conservation of protected alpine plant germplasm, biotechnological applications of endophytic fungi as growth promoters through isolation and taxonomic identification, and morphological-molecular variability analysis for alpine biodiversity preservation. As an active member of the Plant Development and Environmental Interactions research group, his work bridges laboratory studies with field conservation efforts.
Analysis of his 2010-2014 publications reveals a cohesive focus on threatened alpine species—particularly Fritillaria tubiformis subsp. moggridgei and Isoëtes malinverniana—employing RAPD analysis, plastid DNA fingerprinting, and seed physiology techniques to address population genetics, reproductive biology, and conservation strategies. His investigations into plant-endophyte interactions and heavy metal toxicity further demonstrate applied approaches to ecological challenges.
Dr. Mucciarelli engages in third-mission activities through projects like BambApp and public announcements on plant flowerings, while serving on university committees including the Department Council and Veterinary Medicine Master's Course Council.
