Andy Overn is a Professor in the Department of Graphic Design at Bethany Lutheran College, where he has played a pivotal role in developing the graphic design and media arts programs. He holds an M.F.A. in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, a B.S. in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Bethany Lutheran College.
His academic and professional interests span graphic design, illustration, digital painting, web and UX design, multimedia authoring, and concept art. He integrates faith and creativity in his teaching, believing that Christians should influence culture through the arts. Overn has taught foundational and advanced courses such as Drawing, Digital Illustration, Web Design, and Senior Capstone projects.
Although no formal research articles are listed, his creative output includes the co-authored children’s book Hushabye Blushabye and active freelance design work. He is also a performing musician with the Mankato-based group The Divers.

Overn has served in academic leadership roles, including Chair of the Faculty Assembly, Fine Arts Division, and currently the Communication and Visual Arts Division. He advises students through capstone projects and internships, and has been instrumental in shaping curriculum and program development. He also performs community service as a Deacon at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato.
He maintains an active creative practice as a freelance designer and illustrator, bridging academic instruction with real-world application. His lab and team involvement includes collaboration with colleague Kurt Paulsen on the media arts major and ongoing mentorship in student exhibitions and design projects.
