Bloedel's primary research and creative interests lie in playwriting and theatrical adaptation, particularly through innovative formats such as Seussified Shakespeare and Bible-themed rhyming plays. His work bridges entertainment, education, and faith-based expression. He emphasizes a Christ-centered approach in all aspects of theatre education, encouraging students to examine diverse genres through a spiritual lens.
Bloedel has received recognition for his contributions to college theatre, including a KCACTF Region 5 award for the original production of Jam Jar Sonnets. His creative works are published by Playscripts Inc. and have achieved global performance reach, especially The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet.
He advises and mentors students through courses and production involvement, guiding them in acting, stagecraft, dramatic theory, and capstone projects. Though no formal grants are mentioned, his long-standing direction of Theatre Physics suggests sustained programmatic and curricular support. He is actively involved in campus and community outreach, including years of church youth work.
Bloedel leads and participates in the Theatre Practicum and production teams at Bethany, fostering collaborative student ensembles and creative performance groups, particularly around the annual revue and original play productions.
