Andy Newton is a Professor of Criminology and Policing at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), leading the University Research Theme 'Safety and Security of Citizens and Society' since April 2020. He is Deputy Director of the Centre for Offending, Prevention and Engagement (COPE) and part of the Quantitative and Spatial Criminology (QSC) Research Group. His work focuses on crime and policing in transport, technology, data science, GIS, and policy evaluation.
Dr. Newton’s career spans academic roles at the University of Leicester, University of Huddersfield (where he was Director of the Applied Criminology Centre), and University of Liverpool. He has received funding from EPSRC, EU Commission, Home Office, and others for projects on crime prevention, public transport security, and youth violence reduction. He advises the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership and serves on editorial boards of journals like Crime Science and Police Journal.
