Loretta Trickett

Loretta Trickett is a Professor in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University. She leads modules on Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Victim’s Rights, and serves as Academic Leader of the Postgraduate Research Community Forum. Her work bridges theory, policy, and practice in criminal justice.

Her research focuses on hate crime, gendered violence, policing, and social inequality, emphasizing socio-legal and interdisciplinary approaches. She pioneered misogyny hate crime recognition and developed national police training and European-facing accreditation programs.

Her 15 most recent works span hate crime prevention (2025), police risk assessments (2024), domestic abuse sentencing (2024), and community engagement (2023), with a sustained focus on victim advocacy and policy reform since 2021.

Loretta supervises PhD, LLM, and LLB students, contributes to reflexive policing workshops, and leads internally/externally funded projects addressing social exclusion, student safety, and men’s allyship. She operates within NTU's 'Safety and Security of Citizens and Society' theme.
