Andréa Richter is a Professor affiliated with the Université de Montréal and the Centre de recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine. Her research focuses on molecular aspects of genetic diseases prevalent in the Quebec population, particularly North American Indian Childhood Cirrhosis (NAIC) and congenital cardiac malformations. She has identified the cirhin gene linked to NAIC and collaborates on studies using zebrafish models and genome-wide SNP analyses to explore disease mechanisms. Her work is supported by grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Fondation canadienne du foie.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in medical genetics for master’s programs such as the Maîtrise en sciences cliniques and Maîtrise en conseil génétique. She has supervised at least one Master’s student, Marie-Ève Ruest, whose thesis explored Cirhin protein interactions. Key projects include investigating CIRHIN’s broader functional roles, community health strategies with Quebec First Nations, and cardiovascular development studies.
Research expertise spans congenital anomalies, liver diseases, and genetic epidemiology, with a focus on integrating molecular biology and clinical insights. Her interdisciplinary collaborations include pediatric cardiology and public health initiatives to address genetic disorders in Indigenous populations.
