Serge McGraw is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine. He leads the Laboratoire d'Épigénétique du Développement et du Neurodéveloppement, focusing on epigenetic dysregulation in developmental and neurodevelopmental disorders. His research integrates genetic and environmental models, including mouse embryos, stem cells, and patient-derived iPSCs. Key projects address inherited epigenetic errors, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), and mutations in epigenetic genes like DNMT3A.
Education: PhD in Reproductive Biology (Laval University, 2007), postdoctoral training in epigenetics at McGill University (2007–2014). Additional degrees include a BSc in Biochemistry (Laval, 2000), and a diploma in Health Sciences (University of Moncton, 1997).
Research Expertise: Developmental origins of health and disease (DOHAD), FASD mechanisms, rare epigenetic syndromes (e.g., TBRS), and multi-omics approaches. His work bridges basic science and translational medicine, targeting epigenetic therapies for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Awards:
- Senior Research Scholar, Fonds de recherche du Québec-Santé (2024)
- Knowledge Mobilization Prize (RQR, 2024, 2022)
- Junior Research Scholar awards (FRQS, 2020, 2016)
Teaching & Supervision: Advised over 10 graduate students since 2018, focusing on epigenetic mechanisms, FASD, and TBRS. Active in obstetrics/gynecology training programs.
Affiliations: Researcher at CHU Sainte-Justine, member of the Azrieli Research Center and Réseau Québécois en Reproduction (RQR). Deputy Head of the Feto-Maternal and Neonatal Pathologies research axis.
