Andréa E. Banke is an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Instructor of Chamber Music and Literature at Wichita State University (WSU), within the School of Music, College of Fine Arts. She also serves as Program Director of the Master of Arts in Arts Leadership and Management (MAALM) degree and was an inaugural Faculty Lead for the Widener Global Leaders Program, a multi-disciplinary initiative focusing on training women in business, communication, and music. She completed leadership training at the Kansas Leadership Center.
Her career includes 15 years as Professor of Oboe at WSU and roles as Principal Oboe with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Solo Oboe with the Lieurance Woodwind Quintet until a 2019 nerve injury led to her orchestral retirement. She earned degrees summa cum laude from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Minnesota.
Banke’s research and outreach emphasize accessibility in music, having performed over 600 educational concerts with woodwind quintets and engaged diverse audiences, including appearances at a Sioux Indian powwow and a Nebraska prison. She has performed with prestigious groups such as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Heidelberg Opera Schlossfestpiele in Germany.
