André Klip

André Klip serves as Full Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and the Transnational Aspects of Criminal Law at Maastricht University's Law Faculty since 2001, concurrently directing the Maastricht Institute for Criminal Sciences.

His academic foundation includes a law degree complemented by Portuguese language and literature studies, culminating in a PhD from Utrecht University. His scholarly authority is cemented by election to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and leadership roles in the International Association of Penal Law and European Law Institute.

Prof. Klip's research synthesizes national criminal justice systems with transnational frameworks, specializing in European cooperation and international criminal law. His multilingual expertise enables nuanced analysis of cross-border legal mechanisms while maintaining practical relevance to domestic criminal procedure.

His seminal 2021 monograph European Criminal Law. An Integrative Approach (4th ed.), translated into Chinese and Romanian, exemplifies his integrative methodology for harmonizing diverse legal traditions within European criminal law.
