Andrew S. Pumerantz

Andrew S. Pumerantz, DO, MPH, is a Professor and Director of the Department of Population Health Science at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) and holds adjunct roles at Claremont Graduate University. He leads the DO-MPH Dual Enrollment Program and has been affiliated with WesternU since 2007. His academic leadership includes roles as Chair of Internal Medicine (2008-2012), Chief of Infectious Diseases (2007-2016), and founder of the Western Diabetes Institute (2009-2018).

Education highlights include a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (1988) from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, a Master of Public Health (2021) from UC Berkeley, and postdoctoral training in Infectious Diseases at Yale University (1993). He is certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

His research focuses on diabetes management, antimicrobial therapeutics, and global health. Notable contributions include developing liposomal vancomycin formulations for MRSA pneumonia and establishing person-centered outcomes for diabetes care. He leads the Western Diabetes Institute’s research registry (2013-2018) and collaborates internationally on health outcomes measurement.

Awards include the Delta Omega Honorary Society (2023), AOA Mentor Hall of Fame (2008), and recognition for cross-campus collaboration (2012).
