Dr. Andrew Reinmann is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Hunter College, CUNY, and a core member of the Environmental Sciences Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC). His research focuses on plant ecophysiology, terrestrial carbon cycling, and nitrogen dynamics in human-modified ecosystems, including forests and urban landscapes. He combines field observations, experimental approaches, and advanced technologies like remote sensing and GIS to study climate change impacts, urbanization effects, and invasive species dynamics.
Reinmann leads the Reinmann Lab at the ASRC, which emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration across ecology, biogeochemistry, and environmental engineering. Current projects include analyzing urban forest resilience, quantifying carbon fluxes in NYC, and assessing invasive species threats. His work is supported by grants from NASA, NSF, and the US Forest Service, among others.
Key grants include an NSF CAREER Award (2022-2027) to study land-use-climate interactions and a NASA project examining urban ecological health in frontline neighborhoods. He actively mentors graduate and undergraduate students in field and lab research, with a focus on training the next generation of environmental scientists.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding snowpack decline impacts, edge effects in urban forests, and the integration of AI in natural resource management. Reinmann collaborates with institutions like Black Rock Forest and the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, ensuring applied relevance in conservation and policy.
