Andrew Phang

Andrew Phang is a Professor of Law at Singapore Management University (SMU) and a Visiting Professor at the University of Reading. He previously held academic roles including Chair of the Department of Law at SMU’s Business School and Professorships at NUS and SMU. Retired from the judiciary in 2022, he now continues as a Distinguished Term Professor at SMU’s Yong Pung How School of Law.

Research: His work focuses on legal systems and judicial processes, with publications in areas like construction law and medical law. Over 260 academic works and nearly 400 judgments have been cited internationally, appearing in reports such as All England Reports and Medical Law Reports.

Judicial Career: Served as Justice of Appeal and Vice-President of Singapore’s Court of Appeal. His judgments have been referenced in courts globally, including the UK Supreme Court and Hong Kong Final Court of Appeal.
