Andrew Odegaard

Andrew Odegaard is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Public Health. He serves as Director of Graduate Programs in Epidemiology and focuses on diet, nutrition, obesity, metabolic disorders, and their links to chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.

Education:

• PhD in Epidemiology from University of Minnesota School of Public Health
• MPH in Epidemiology from University of Minnesota School of Public Health

His research examines patterns, causes, and consequences of obesity and insulin resistance, emphasizing dietary intake and body composition as causal factors for modern chronic diseases. He employs observational and randomized study designs across the life course.

As a principal investigator, Dr. Odegaard has secured major funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
