Andrew Marshall

Andrew Marshall is a Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Molecular Sciences and School of Human Sciences, and the Australian Centre for RNA Therapeutics in Cancer. His research focuses on linking protein structure to function, particularly exploring how protein architecture influences biological processes and informing the design of novel therapeutics. He earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Adelaide (2014–2018), studying antifungal drug targets in Aspergillus fumigatus.

Marshall’s expertise includes protein crystallography, liquid-liquid phase separation, enzyme inhibition, and biophysical techniques. His work addresses medical and technological challenges through structural biology, with contributions to understanding paraspeckle biology, RNA-binding proteins, and biomolecular condensates.

His recent articles investigate structural characteristics of RNA-binding proteins, phase separation in paraspeckles, and the roles of coiled-coil interactions in SFPQ proteins. These studies highlight his focus on dynamic biomolecular systems and their implications for cellular function.
