معرفی
Dr. Andrew MacLean is an Associate Professor in Microbiology and Immunology at Tulane University School of Medicine. His research focuses on neuroimmunological mechanisms of HIV/SIV infection, blood-brain barrier dynamics, and neurodegeneration. He holds an R01 grant exploring CRISPR-based HIV eradication and collaborates on NIH-funded projects investigating exosome roles in viral pathogenesis and arboviral CNS infections. As a core scientist at the TNPRC, he supports graduate training and provides expertise in primary cell culture techniques.
Education: BS and PhD in Cell Biology from University of Glasgow, Scotland.
Research Interests: Combines molecular pathology approaches with non-human primate models to study:
- Neuroinflammation in chronic viral infections
- Exosome-mediated immune evasion
- CRISPR-based HIV cure strategies
- Arbovirus-induced neuroinflammation (Zika/Dengue/Chikungunya)
Advising & Grants: Mentor for graduate students/postdocs through TNPRC training programs. Active in multi-PI HIV eradication initiatives and NIH-funded collaborative projects. Serves on Tulane's neuroscience research coordination group.
Technological Expertise: Specializes in in vitro BBB models, astrocyte/microglia culture systems, and advanced microscopy for extracellular vesicle analysis. Provides lab training across the TNPRC's research programs.
