Yuri Persidsky, MD, PhD, is Chair and Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He is a board-certified pathologist specializing in anatomic pathology and nephropathology, with extensive experience in clinical laboratory administration.

Dr. Persidsky's research is centered on the molecular mechanisms regulating the blood-brain barrier (BBB) under both physiological and pathological conditions. His work investigates neuroinflammation, HIV-1 brain infection, alcohol and drug abuse, pericyte dysfunction, biomarkers of BBB injury, and neuroprotective strategies. He has pioneered studies on the effects of cannabinoids on neural stem cells and the combined impact of alcohol and e-cigarettes on BBB integrity.
