Andrew M. Smith II

Andrew M. Smith II is an Associate Professor at George Washington University, affiliated with the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Classical & Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations. His research focuses on the history and archaeology of the ancient Near East, with emphasis on Arabia during Classical periods, Nabataean/Palmyrene identity formation, and socio-economic power dynamics.

Education includes a B.S. in History with Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University and a Ph.D. in History from University of Maryland, College Park. Since 1993, he has directed archaeological projects across Greece, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.
