Dr. James Hardin is a Full Professor and Department Head in the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures at Mississippi State University (MSU), and Director of the Cobb Institute of Archaeology. He holds a B.A. in Anthropology from MSU (1988), an M.A. in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Arizona (1994), and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Arizona (2001). His research focuses on Bronze and Iron Age cultures of Syria-Palestine, ceramic analysis, and the socio-economic dynamics of ancient Judah. He has extensive fieldwork experience in Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, and the U.S., particularly with the Lahav Research Project at Tel Halif since 1986.
Hardin’s work integrates archaeological data with biblical texts and historical documents to understand Old Testament history. He is co-editing a volume on Middle Bronze Age fortification systems at Tell Gezer and collaborates on publications from Tel Halif. Active in professional organizations, he serves on the Agenda Committee of the American Schools of Oriental Research.
