معرفی
Andrew Hemmings is a Professor of Structural Biology at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences and School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology. He holds dual professorial roles and is a member of multiple research centers, including the Centre for Molecular and Structural Biochemistry (CMSB) and the Chemistry of Life Processes. His expertise spans structural biology, X-ray crystallography, and macromolecular modeling.
Education: Holds a BSc in Chemistry from University College London (1982) and a PhD in Biochemistry from Birkbeck University of London (1987).
Research Interests: Focuses on structural basis of molecular interactions in biological processes, particularly bacterial survival mechanisms, enzymology, and metalloprotein studies. His group investigates bacterial protein structures, metal ion interactions, and plant biosynthetic enzymes. Recent projects include phytase structural engineering and gut microbiota interactions.
Key Projects (2018–2025): Includes Royal Society-funded research on Xylanases for nutraceutical production, anticancer ubiquitin ligase inhibitors, and phytase applications in animal feeds. Collaborations span institutions globally, with a focus on multidisciplinary approaches.
Awards: Recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2019) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2019).
Teaching: Leads courses in molecular enzymology, biochemistry laboratory techniques, and protein structure engineering. Oversees academic programs including the BSc/MSci Biochemistry courses.
Lab Environment: Based in the School of Biological Sciences, with access to synchrotron facilities for X-ray scattering/diffraction. Active in international conferences and collaborative networks.
