Andrew Gonzales is a Professor in the Department of Biology at McGill University. He holds the Liber Ero Chair in Conservation Biology and is a Killam Scholar. Additionally, he serves as the Founding Director of the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science and co-founded Eco2Urb, an organization dedicated to urban ecology solutions.
His research centers on biodiversity change, integrating theoretical models and experimental approaches to study evolutionary responses to environmental stressors such as pollution, habitat fragmentation, and climate change. He has developed influential frameworks for understanding food web dynamics in fragmented landscapes and the ecosystem consequences of connectivity loss. Furthermore, his work explores the societal benefits of biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, directly informing conservation strategies through the design of connected protected areas.
