Dr. Andrew Duncan is a Lecturer/Researcher in Data Science at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), affiliated with the Centre for Living Sustainability. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh and a TQFE (Distinction) from the University of Stirling. His roles include Programme Leader for the MSc Applied Data Analytics and collaborative research with Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) focusing on epidemiological modeling and disease spread analysis.
Education: PhD in Mathematics (2009, University of Edinburgh); BSc (Hons) 1st Class in Mathematics; TQFE (Distinction, University of Stirling).
Research focuses on network analysis for disease modeling (e.g., BVD virus control), sentiment analysis, text mining, and reproducible reporting methodologies. He has led projects like the Trees to Timber Mill dashboard (Innovate UK KTP) and contributed to veterinary surveillance systems in Scotland.
Key collaborations include SRUC’s Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health. His work emphasizes applied data analytics for environmental and agricultural challenges, with outputs published in journals like Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Frontiers in Veterinary Science.
