معرفی
Andrew D. Badley, M.D., is a Professor of Medicine and Molecular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. As an infectious disease specialist and physician-scientist, he directs the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Laboratory, chairs the Department of Molecular Medicine, and leads the SARS-CoV-2 Task Force. His research spans
- novel therapeutic development (small-molecule, biologic, cellular, and gene therapy)
- TRAIL/TRAILshort signaling in apoptosis and HIV
- clinical trials for HIV eradication and immune-based therapies
- translational research in virology and oncology
Education highlights:
- MD, Dalhousie University (1990)
- Residency in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic (1994-1997)
Research interests focus on curing HIV through reservoir eradication and developing immune therapies for virology/oncology. His work explores the TRAILshort splice variant's role in TRAIL signaling, BCL-2 phosphorylation in HIV dynamics, and 3D bioprinting for disease models.
Recent research trends emphasize HIV latency, NF-κB modulation, SARS-CoV-2 pandemic response, and antimicrobial testing for prosthetic infections.
Scientific awards include the HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Professorship (2018), Outstanding Investigator Award (Mayo Clinic, 2016), and Fellowships from Infectious Diseases Society of America (2008) and American College of Physicians (2005).
Grants and projects have been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 20 years, including studies on
- HIV reservoir elimination
- TRAILshort's role in latency
- 3D bioprinting for drug discovery
- KDM5A/B in HIV persistence
Labs and teams include leadership roles at the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Laboratory and collaborations with Qrativ, Sphaera Pharma, and Mayo Clinic’s CCaTS Drug Discovery initiatives.
