Andrew Chantry is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of East Anglia (UEA). He serves as Course Director for the Biological Sciences degree program and holds administrative roles, including Chairman of the BIO Library Committee. With a BSc from Birmingham University (1985) and a PhD from the University of London (1989), Chantry has held positions as a postdoctoral fellow at Oxford University and the Max-Planck Institute, before becoming a Senior Lecturer at UEA in 2000.
His research focuses on translational drug discovery, targeting abnormal TGFβ signaling in cancer metastasis, leukemia, osteoarthritis, and fibrotic diseases. Key projects include developing therapeutics against WWP2 ubiquitin ligase oncogenes and exploring novel protein degradation tools. Chantry’s work bridges cell signaling, ubiquitination, and cancer biology, with contributions to understanding receptor tyrosine kinase pathways and Smad signaling mechanisms.
He has led over 24 collaborative projects funded by institutions like The Big C Appeal and the Wellcome Trust. Chantry also serves on the editorial boards of journals like Molecular & Cellular Proteomics and Frontiers in Molecular and Structural Endocrinology.
Teaching interests include molecular and cellular biology, physiology, and biomedicine, emphasizing cell signaling and cancer biology. His research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to health and innovation.
