Dr. Andrew Burke is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie Law School, Macquarie University. He holds a BSc (Environmental Resource Management)/LLB from Macquarie University, an LLM from the University of Sydney, and a PhD from Macquarie University focusing on environmental crime sentencing. Prior to academia, he was a solicitor specializing in criminal defense and served as Director of the Environmental Defenders Office NSW.
His research focuses on the sentencing of environmental crimes, criminal law pedagogy, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies in policing and legal education. His work emphasizes reconciling sentencing practices with environmental justice principles, particularly in cases involving transboundary pollution and endangered species protection.
