Andres Tovar is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Motorsports Engineering at Purdue University since July 2024. Previously, he held roles at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the University of Notre Dame, and the National University of Colombia. His research focuses on topology optimization, Bayesian optimization, additive manufacturing, compostable plastics, and crashworthiness. He leads the Engineering Design Research Laboratory and has received multiple awards, including the SADCO Our Talent Award and Indiana University Trustees Teaching Awards. His work integrates advanced materials science, computational methods, and sustainable engineering practices.
Education: PhD in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (University of Notre Dame, 2005), MS in Mechanical Engineering (Notre Dame, 2004), MS in Industrial Automation (National University of Colombia, 2000), and BS in Mechanical Engineering (National University of Colombia, 1995).
