Ali Razban serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Mechanical & Energy Engineering at the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), with additional leadership roles as Director of the Bachelor of Science in Energy Engineering (BSEEN) Program and Assistant Director of the Industrial Assessment Center since 2011.
His educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Control, Robotics and Automation from Imperial College London (1994), dual M.S.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan (1991), and an M.B.A. in Executive Management from Purdue University (2005).
Razban's research integrates Energy Management, Renewable Energy Systems, and Control Engineering with practical applications in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and industrial Automation. His work bridges theoretical control systems with real-world energy efficiency solutions, particularly in robotics-enabled precision engineering and sustainable transportation systems.
His 2020 Sensors publication on position estimation algorithms exemplifies his focus on high-precision control systems within mechanical engineering contexts, demonstrating consistent application of robotics and automation principles to energy management challenges.
Key recognitions include:
- Energy Manager today 75 Honorees (2018)
- IUPUI Favorite Professor Award (2011)
Through the Industrial Assessment Center and BSEEN program leadership, Razban directs student teams in conducting energy assessments for manufacturing facilities while developing curriculum for next-generation energy engineers, fostering industry-academia collaboration in sustainable technology implementation.
