Andrei Corbea-Hoisie is a distinguished Professor in the Department for German Studies at the Faculty of Letters, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania. He has held this position since 1995 and previously served as an Associated Professor from 1990-1995. His academic career spans over three decades with significant contributions to German studies and Central European cultural history, complemented by international experience at institutions including the University of Vienna, Université Paris 8, and University of Konstanz.
His educational background includes a PhD in philology from the University of Bucharest (1988), a BA in History from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (1979), and a BA in German Literature from the same institution (1974). He has held prestigious fellowships including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Konstanz University (1991-1992) and the Blaise Pascal Research Chair at École Normale Supérieure Paris (1998-1999).
Corbea-Hoisie's research focuses on the History of modern German-speaking literature, Comparative literature, Esthetics and literary anthropology, History of Central European culture from the 18th century until present day, and History of the German-speaking culture in Romania. His work extensively explores Czernowitz (Cernauti) as a cultural microcosm of Central Europe, examining how literature, press, and public discourse shaped cultural memory and national identities in multi-ethnic regions.
