Andreas Heinz

Professor Andreas Heinz is a prominent psychiatrist and researcher at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, where he works at the University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in the Department of General Psychiatry and Psychotherapy with Polyclinic. His research program spans multiple interdisciplinary projects focusing on the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms underlying addiction and mental health disorders.

His research interests primarily center on the neural mechanisms of addiction, particularly alcohol use disorders, examining dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, decision-making processes, and brain imaging correlates. Professor Heinz employs multimodal neuroimaging techniques including 7-Tesla MRI to investigate GABA-glutamate interactions in depression and schizophrenia, as well as perceptual decision-making under changing assumptions.
